Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) differences in narrative writing between the groups using Talk Fusion applications and groups not using the Talk Fusion applications, and (2) the effectiveness of the use of Talk Fusion applications in narrative writing for semester VI students of University of Palangka Raya. The study was an experimental study. The design of the study was Pre-test and Post-test Control Group Design. There are two variables in this study, namely the independent variable in the form of Talk Fusion applications and the dependent variable namely the narrative writing. The results of t-test calculation shows t scores that is greater than t table (th: 4.711> tt: 1.980) at a significance level of 5% and db 70. This shows that there are significant differences in the narrative writing between groups by learning by using Talk Fusion applications and the group learning without the use of Talk Fusion applications. Scheffe test calculation results showed F count is higher than F table (Fh: 22.194> Ft: 3.98) with 70 db and at a significance level of 5% of 36 students. This indicates that the value of the struggle of a character in biographies by using Talk Fusion applications are more effective than learning character that is not using Talk Fusion applications in the control group. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of Talk Fusion applications can improve the ability to write narrative.

The study was conducted in 33 provinces in Indonesia in 2012-2013. From the results of the estimation using Eviews 7 software, are known that GER inequality, Dropout and Literacy rate inequality variable influenced by economic inequality and education inequality in different directions.

Abstract

Questioning plays an important part in the teaching and learning science. Previous research has extensively focused on teachers‟ questions compared to students‟ questions. Research of students‟ questions is vital as it shows how students think and their understanding of a content studied. Hence, this research focuses on students‟ questions, types of questions asked and the sequence(s) after students‟ question. Twenty three chemistry teachers and their students of national secondary schools were involved in this study. Ninety two chemistry lessons were observed, audio and video recorded. Transcript of the lessons showed that students‟ questions were mainly related to content or science process skills as emphasised in inquiry teaching and learning. However, most questions asked by students were low order closed questions. The sequence after students‟ questions with the highest percentage (83.33%) was IR (Initiation from student, followed by teachers‟ response). This sequence showed that chemistry teachers in this study did not display inquiry-based questioning characteristics because in inquiry teaching, teachers should avoid responding to students‟ questions. Instead, they should provide opportunities for students to respond to their friends‟ questions. Hence, teachers should move towards student initiated inquiry, where students ask higher order thinking questions and increasing the interaction among the students.
